The Houston Astros have signed veteran catcher Christian Vázquez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training, the team announced Saturday. The 35-year-old returns to Houston for the first time since helping the Astros win the 2022 World Series. Vázquez also won a championship with the Boston Red Sox in 2018.

Vázquez spent the past three seasons with the Minnesota Twins, where he struggled offensively last year, batting just .189 with three home runs and 14 RBIs. His career year came in 2019 with Boston, when he hit .276 with a career-high 23 homers and 72 RBIs. The Puerto Rican catcher is currently representing his country in the World Baseball Classic.

Vázquez brings championship experience and veteran leadership to Houston's catching depth. His minor league deal provides insurance behind the plate as the Astros prepare for the 2026 season. The move signals Houston's willingness to bring back proven winners as they aim for another postseason run.
