The Seattle Mariners have hired Jason Kanzler, the Chicago Cubs' director of player development, as their new manager. Kanzler, 36, has no prior managerial experience but replaces Dan Wilson, who was fired after a disappointing 76-86 season. The Mariners, who reached the ALCS in 2025, struggled offensively and pitching-wise in 2026.
Kanzler inherits a talented roster featuring Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodriguez. He previously coached in the Astros organization and helped develop young Cubs players. Mariners GM Justin Hollander praised Kanzler's leadership and intensity.
Kanzler will be the third manager under Jerry Dipoto, who believes Kanzler can help the team reach championship standards.
