Houston Astros closer Josh Hader returned to throwing Friday after dealing with biceps tendinitis during offseason bullpen sessions. The six-time All-Star left-hander had stopped playing catch following a series of offseason workouts before arriving at spring training in Florida this week. Manager Joe Espada said Hader is trending in the right direction after missing the end of last season with a shoulder capsule strain.

Hader, 31, described the setback as minor, saying he felt something in his biceps while throwing a changeup during his fourth offseason bullpen. He told reporters Wednesday that he was 'a few weeks behind' but remained confident the issue wasn't concerning. The Astros are taking a cautious approach with their star closer, who was 6-2 with 28 saves and a 2.05 ERA in 48 appearances last season after joining Houston in free agency.

General manager Dana Brown confirmed Hader feels good and that the team will gradually build him back up. Hader's last game was a two-inning outing against the New York Yankees on Aug. 8, before Houston missed the playoffs for the first time in nine seasons. The Astros have plenty of time to get their closer ready for the season.
