Former St. Louis Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak will serve as a consultant through the end of the calendar year, overseeing day-to-day operations while the Angels search for a permanent replacement. Mozeliak, who stepped down from the Cardinals after the 2025 season, brings credentials including a 2011 World Series championship, six division titles, and ten postseason appearances during his 18-year tenure in St. Louis.

Minasian's tenure was marked by controversial decisions, including releasing future Hall of Famer Albert Pujols in 2021 and firing manager Joe Maddon in 2022. Most damaging was the 2023 decision not to trade Shohei Ohtani before free agency, instead acquiring Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez in a failed win-now push. Ohtani subsequently signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Since 2021, the Angels rank sixth-worst in winning percentage while posting the fifth-highest ERA and eighth-fewest runs scored. Their farm system has consistently rated among baseball's worst. Mozeliak's arrival signals ownership's desire to stabilize a franchise that has lacked direction since Mike Scioscia's departure after the 2018 season.
