Venus Williams will compete in the women's doubles at the French Open later this month, pairing with 21-year-old Hailey Baptiste. The 45-year-old American was confirmed among the entrants Wednesday for the clay-court tournament beginning May 24 at Roland Garros in Paris. She will not play in the women's singles draw.

Williams entered the Australian Open earlier this year as a wild-card recipient and suffered a first-round exit, though she became the oldest woman ever to compete in the Australian Open singles main draw. A seven-time major champion in singles, she held the world No. 1 ranking in both singles and doubles during her career. She lost the French Open singles final to her younger sister Serena in 2002.

The veteran won the French Open doubles title twice alongside Serena, claiming championships in 1999 and 2010. Her latest doubles appearance continues a remarkable career that has spanned more than two decades at the highest levels of tennis.
