Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss filed a lawsuit Friday in the Chancery Court of Lafayette County, Mississippi, seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction that would grant him a sixth season of play for the Ole Miss Rebels. The NCAA denied his waiver on Jan. 9, saying his medical documentation did not prove an incapacitating injury.

Chambliss argues the NCAA applied its waiver rules in a “isolated” manner, ignoring comprehensive evidence of his chronic respiratory problems that sidelined him at Division II Ferris State in 2022. Attorneys Tom Mars and William Liston, also representing The Grove Collective, point to 91 pages of records and a doctor’s letter describing recurrent throat infections, poor sleep and exercise‑related airway discomfort.

Chambliss, who signed a contract reportedly worth up to $6 million for the 2026 season, finished eighth in Heisman voting, earned SEC Newcomer of the Year, and led Ole Miss to the CFP semifinals. The case, filed in state court rather than federal, could test the NCAA’s waiver process and may prompt other athletes to challenge eligibility denials.
