Boone Niederhofer, a former Texas A&M receiver and petroleum engineer from Midland, Texas, has made the 2026 U.S. Olympic bobsled team in an improbable journey. The 32-year-old father of two balanced full-time work in the Permian Basin oil fields with intense training to become the first Aggie to ever compete in the Winter Olympics.

Niederhofer's path began in 2019 when he was laid off from a Midland oil company and joined a USA Bobsled tryout after encouragement from former teammate Sam Moeller. Despite working full-time and being away from the only two U.S. bobsled tracks in Lake Placid and Park City, he persevered. His employer, Civitas Resources, provided the flexibility he needed to pursue his Olympic dream while managing geological surveys and drilling economics.

Niederhofer will compete in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy, as a push athlete alongside driver Frank Del Duca on the four-man bobsled team. His journey from West Texas oil fields to Olympic ice exemplifies extraordinary dedication, proving that with the right support system and unwavering determination, even the most unlikely dreams can become reality.
