With Canada leading 3-2 and holding five stones to Norway's two in the house, the pressure was immense. Thurston threaded the needle perfectly between the guards, sending his stone careening through the narrow gap. The shot's brilliance came when it struck one Norway stone, which then knocked out another Norway stone from the house.

''We got a bit of an opening from their previous shot, and the coaches saw a possibility,'' Thurston said afterwards. ''I threw the weight we wanted; the rock ran the way we wanted, and I was just ecstatic to make that shot.''
