SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey addressed ongoing "honest conversations" with congressional leaders regarding the Protect College Sports Act during SEC media days. While the SEC does not support the bill in its current form, Sankey confirmed discussions about potential conference breakaways, stemming from frustrations that have led to suggestions for significant changes. The SEC has proposed 10 commonsense suggestions aimed at creating national standards, limiting state laws, ensuring transparency, and establishing fair decision-making frameworks.

Sankey emphasized the preference for collaborative improvement of the act, stating, "We believe changes to the act are necessary to make it most effective." The league opposes portions of the bill that would allow conferences to pool media rights and has engaged in extended talks concerning the formation of super leagues. Both the SEC and Big Ten have requested modifications.

Regarding the urgency, Sankey noted, "If Congress is going to act, we have one opportunity to get this legislation right." He also touched upon College Football Playoff expansion, indicating that answers regarding a 24-team field and media interest are still pending, with a December 1 deadline for format changes. The SEC's stance remains focused on finding the "right path for college football."
