Scottie Scheffler delivered a 61 (9-under) in the Fed Ex St. Jude Championship, tying the course record and taking a three-shot lead on Friday. Playing in 100-degree heat, Scheffler carded 11 birdies and two bogeys at TPC Southwind, his seventh visit to the course. He stated, 'Probably one of the best starts I've had on tour,' emphasizing his dominance early. Viktor Hovland (64, 8-under) and Sungjae Im (66, 8-under) tied for second.

Scheffler’s 129 total marked his strongest start since 2023. Jordan Spieth (69, 6-under) joined a four-way first-round tie. Scheffler’s lead is critical as the Fed Ex Cup standings hinge on top-50 finishes for $20 million signature events. Rory McIlroy (74 followed by 70, 4-over) and Matt Fitzpatrick (67, 3-under) trailed.

Scheffler entered with a 794-point lead over Fitzpatrick. Ludvig Åberg (65, 7-under) and Spieth rounded the top contenders. Scheffler noted, 'I did some good things out there,' highlighting iron shots and clutch putting.

Despite seven prior visits to TPC Southwind without a win, he now leads the PGA Tour’s most challenging courses.
