Scottie Scheffler fired a 10-under 60 at the Travelers Championship on Friday, missing a 25-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole that would have made him just the second player in PGA Tour history with multiple sub-60 rounds. The soft conditions at TPC River Highlands produced extreme low scoring throughout the field.

Viktor Hovland needed birdies on his final two holes to shoot 59 but settled for pars and a 61 instead, matching his career best. Akshay Bhatia posted a 62 as Scheffler took the 36-hole lead at 16-under 124, two strokes clear of Hovland. Eric Cole, the first-round leader, still had four holes to play when Scheffler finished.

Scheffler's previous sub-60 round came in 2020 at The Northern Trust, where he shot 59 on another rain-softened course. Jim Furyk holds the distinction of two sub-60 rounds, including a 58 at the Travelers in 2016 that stands as the PGA Tour record. Neither Furyk victory came at tournaments where he posted those historic scores.

The world No. 1 enters the weekend seeking his first win since The American Express in January, following a tie for fourth at the U.S. Open. A victory would mark his second Travelers title, having previously won in 2024.
