Robert Wright III has decided to bypass the transfer portal and return to BYU for his junior season, sources confirmed Wednesday. The former Baylor guard, a third‑team All‑Big 12 selection, had visited Kentucky but chose Provo instead. Wright's decision gives the Cougars a proven floor general after a standout sophomore campaign. The choice also denies Kentucky a boost at point guard.

Last year Wright averaged 18.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.6 assists while shooting 41 % from beyond the arc. He recorded five 25‑point games in Big 12 play, including 30 against Baylor and a career‑high 39 versus Colorado, and nailed the buzzer‑beater that lifted BYU over Clemson in the Jimmy V Classic. Those numbers cement his status as one of the nation’s most electric point guards.

Coach Kevin Young loses AJ Dybantsa, the nation’s leading scorer and potential No. 1 NBA draft pick, plus All‑Big 12 veteran Richie Saunders. To offset those exits, BYU added top‑10 recruit Bruce Branch III, Kentucky transfer Collin Chandler—ranked in ESPN’s top‑50 transfers—and Syracuse swingman Tyler Betsey. Wright’s return anchors a roster that remains competitive despite the looming talent drain.
