Four‑time WNBA All‑Star Kelsey Plum has agreed to a one‑year contract worth $999,999 to rejoin the Los Angeles Sparks. Sources said the deal, signed on Sunday, trades the $1.4 million supermax for a discounted rate that frees the Sparks to assemble a title‑contending roster ahead of the 2026‑27 season, offering a fresh start for both player and franchise.

Plum, 31, averaged 19.5 points and 5.7 assists last season with the Sparks, the first campaign after a decade‑long stint with the San Antonio Stars/Las Vegas Aces. Drafted No. 1 overall in 2017, she helped the Aces win back‑to‑back titles in 2022 and 2023 before moving to Los Angeles and bring her championship experience back to a historic franchise.

The Sparks, one of the league’s original clubs, have missed the playoffs since 2020, the longest active drought in the WNBA. Plum’s return is seen as a statement move, pairing veteran scoring with a younger core that could finally break that streak and restore the franchise’s relevance providing a clear path to postseason contention ahead.

Plum, a former NCAA scoring record holder and Olympic gold medalist in both 5‑on‑5 and 3x3 formats, also earned Sixth Player of the Year honors in 2021 and All‑Star Game MVP in 2022. Her experience and leadership will be crucial as the Sparks aim to end a decade of playoff absence with a revamped roster.
