Alabama coach Nate Oats has firmly shut down speculation about him leaving for the North Carolina head coaching vacancy, stating he has "absolutely no reason to leave" his current position. The seventh-year Crimson Tide mentor, who leads his No. 4 seeded team into a Sweet 16 matchup against Michigan, acknowledged being flattered by other job rumors but isn't looking to "jump around."

Oats has built a strong program at Alabama, posting a 170-72 record with four Sweet 16 appearances in five seasons, including a 2024 Final Four run. His current contract, signed in 2024 before the Final Four, runs through 2030 with annual raises of about $500,000. If he were to leave, he would owe Alabama $18 million in buyout, though that drops to $10 million after April 1.

The 51-year-old coach praised athletic director Greg Byrne, saying "they're doing everything they can to make sure that we've got a competitive program." Oats expressed his desire to bring Alabama its first national championship while confirming contract discussions are ongoing but not urgent, stating "I'm not looking to leave. They don't need to be in a huge rush to fix a really good contract that I've got right now."
