Natasha Cloud Sky Struggles Amid Injuries Roster Overhaul

Natasha Cloud arrived in Chicago after a chaotic free agency that left the 34-year-old former champion unsigned into training camp. GM Jeff Pagliocca overhauled the roster — trading Angel Reese, signing Skylar Diggins, Di Jonai Carrington, and Azura Stevens, and acquiring Rickea Jackson and Jacy Sheldon — with immediate playoff expectations despite no winning record since 2022.

The plan unraveled quickly. Jackson, the No. 4 pick in 2024 and early Most Improved Player candidate, tore her ACL in game four. Courtney Vandersloot (ACL), Stevens, Carrington, and rookie Gabriela Jaquez all missed significant time. Diggins was benched and criticized a "loser mentality" on social media. The Chicago Sky sit 7-14, ranking ninth in scoring (86.2 PPG) and 11th in defense (88.8 allowed), with eight losses by eight points or fewer.

Recent signs offer hope: Chicago won three of five, including a 124-point outburst against Portland. Vandersloot returned Tuesday, Stevens is rounding into form, and rookie Sydney Taylor ranks fourth among first-year scorers. Cloud, moved between starting and reserve roles, provides veteran stability amid the flux.

If the Sky can sustain health, their margin in close games suggests a playoff push isn't unrealistic. But Pagliocca's win-now mandate leaves little runway — another extended skid could force deeper roster surgery before the deadline.
