Nashville teenager Blades Brown shot a 68 to join world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at 21-under, one shot behind Si Woo Kim after the third round of The American Express. Brown, 18, is bidding to become the youngest winner on the PGA Tour in nearly a century.

Brown's journey is remarkable. He played his seventh straight round after arriving from a Korn Ferry Tour event in the Bahamas, holing a 25-foot birdie on the 17th and a 45-footer on the 18th. Kim, the 2017 Players champion, leads after a 66 at La Quinta CC.

Scheffler and Brown, who will play together in the final group, are regular weekend partners with Kim. The trio knows the low-scoring tradition of this tournament. A packed leaderboard, including Wyndham Clark and Eric Cole, sets up a dramatic Sunday in the California desert.
