Keith Mitchell and Jordan Spieth missed the FedEx Cup playoffs after finding water on the final holes of the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Mitchell bogeyed the 18th after his shot went into the water, finishing 51st in the standings, just 7.819 points short of the top 50 cutoff. Spieth, who rose to 45th pre-tournament, lost ground with bogeys on Nos. 11-12 and 18, ending 52nd.

Both needed flawless play to reach the BMW Championship, the second of three $20 million signature events. Maverick McNealy secured the final spot in the top 50 with a 69, tying for 19th. "The top 50 number is probably the most important on the PGA Tour now," McNealy said. The 50th-place cutoff determined entry into the Tour Championship, the FedEx Cup finale in St. Louis.
