Michigan Regents to Review Athletic Dept Investigation

The University of Michigan regents will meet Thursday to discuss a Jenner & Block‑led probe into the athletic department’s culture, sources told ESPN. The review follows the December firing of head football coach Sherrone Moore for an inappropriate relationship with staffer Paige Shiver, his subsequent arrest and a misdemeanor plea deal. The investigation also covers the illegal scouting scheme run by Connor Stalions, multiple NCAA violations and federal charges against former offensive coordinator Matt Weiss, who is slated for trial in September.

The $11 million report will examine what AD Warde Manuel knew about Moore’s conduct and how he responded. Manuel, a former Michigan player and athletic director since 2016, earns nearly $2.4 million annually under a contract running through 2030. His tenure has seen national titles in men’s basketball (2026) and football (2023), but also hefty penalties, including a projected $30 million NCAA fine and a 10‑year show‑cause order for coach Jim Harbaugh. Recent hiring missteps, such as the brief Dusty May agreement, add to the scrutiny of Manuel’s future.
