Matt Leinart Stands Firm: USC No. 11 Jersey Unretiring Rejected

Former USC Heisman-winning quarterback Matt Leinart has definitively rejected requests to unretire his iconic No. 11 jersey for current players. Speaking on his podcast last week, Leinart stated he would 'absolutely f---ing not' allow the retired number to be worn by a prospect. He emphasized the jersey is 'not for sale' and will remain retired 'forever,' even dismissing a hypothetical $1 million offer.

Leinart's stance is personal: he would only consider unretiring it for his own sons if they played for USC, specifically mentioning his son Cole. This decision comes despite recent instances where other retired USC numbers have been worn, such as Carson Palmer's No. 3, which was temporarily unretired for Jordan Addison in 2022. Leinart's position underscores the deep significance of his legacy at USC, where he played from 2003-2005, leading the Trojans to national prominence and finishing second all-time in USC passing touchdowns (71) behind Palmer.

The Arizona Cardinals selected him as the 10th overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft.
