Lehigh University's baseball team made history Tuesday by scoring 20 runs in the first inning of a 38-6 blowout against Coppin State. The Mountain Hawks' offensive explosion began with eight batters reaching base before the Eagles recorded their first out, setting the tone for what would become a record-setting performance.

Eight Lehigh players crossed home plate in the opening frame, with runs 4 through 16 coming on walks, hit by pitches, or wild pitches. First baseman Owen Walewander capped the madness with a grand slam, pushing the score to 20-0. The inning featured 23 plate appearances, 11 walks, six HBPs, and just three hits. Coppin State managed to score once in the bottom of the inning, trailing 20-1 after one.

Lehigh's 20-run first inning broke the previous Division I record of 18 set by Princeton in 1974 and tied by Air Force in 1974. The Mountain Hawks finished with 12 hits, 25 walks, and nine HBPs, while Coppin State pitchers threw 11 wild pitches. Senior third baseman Aidan Quinn set an NCAA record with seven walks in the game.
