Northern Iowa has named Kyle Green as its new head men's basketball coach, replacing Ben Jacobson who departed for Utah State. Green, a longtime assistant with three previous stints at UNI, returns to the program after five years on Iowa State's staff. The school announced Green agreed to a five-year contract, though terms were not disclosed.

Green brings over 30 years of college coaching experience across multiple NCAA divisions. He served as an assistant under Greg McDermott from 2001-2003 and 2006-2011, then under Jacobson from 2012-2021. Green also spent one season as head coach at Division III Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2011-12. During his previous tenure with the Panthers, UNI won four Missouri Valley Conference tournaments and three regular-season championships.

Northern Iowa went 23-13 this past season, capturing the Missouri Valley tournament before falling to St. John's in the NCAA tournament's first round. Green expressed deep connection to the program, calling UNI "more than just a school or job" and describing it as home. His coaching stops also include head coaching positions at Division II schools Lewis University and Western Colorado. Green inherits a program with rich history built by hall of fame coaches Eldon Miller, McDermott, and Jacobson.
