Dutch speedskater Jutta Leerdam claimed Olympic gold in the women's 1,000 meters with a Games-record time of 1:12.31 at the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The reigning world champion dominated the final heat, finishing nearly a full second faster than the previous Olympic record set in 2022.

Leerdam's victory came in front of her fiancé, YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul, who watched from the stands. She celebrated by blowing kisses toward him after securing her first Olympic gold medal. The Dutch powerhouse beat her own teammate Femke Kok to silver, while defending champion Miho Takagi of Japan took bronze.

This marks another milestone in Leerdam's stellar career, which includes 12 world championship medals with six golds. She has been particularly dominant in the 1,000 meters this season, winning three of four World Cup races at that distance. Leerdam will compete again in the 500 meters this weekend, seeking to add another medal to her collection. The temporary arena in Milan has already seen three Olympic records set across three speedskating events.
