ESPN Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Vitale has revealed a new melanoma diagnosis in his lung and liver cavity, announcing he will begin immunotherapy treatment. The 86-year-old college basketball icon, who has previously beaten four different cancers including melanoma, lymphoma, vocal cord cancer, and lymph node cancer, expressed confidence about his latest health challenge.

Vitale's cancer journey has been well-documented over the past few years. He returned to broadcasting in February 2025 after a nearly two-year break following neck surgery in summer 2024. The veteran broadcaster wrapped up his 46th season covering college basketball for ESPN, where he joined during the network's launch in 1979 and called the first major NCAA basketball game on December 5, 1979.

Despite the diagnosis, Vitale reported feeling fantastic and expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans, family, and his ESPN colleagues. His positive outlook remains consistent with his previous battles, as he aims to make his cancer record five-for-five. Vitale's resilience and passion for the game have made him one of the most recognizable voices in sports broadcasting history.
