Despite Colorado's challenging 3-9 record last season, coach Deion Sanders expressed significant optimism at Big 12 media days, asserting that the Buffaloes' turnaround is already underway and will manifest by 2026. Sanders acknowledged last year's struggles, where the team ranked near the bottom nationally in total offense and defense, and admitted his recovery from bladder cancer impacted his coaching effectiveness.

This offseason has seen a significant roster overhaul, with 66 new players joining the program, alongside new offensive coordinator Brennan Marion and promoted defensive coordinator Chris Marve. Sanders is particularly hopeful about second-year quarterback Julian Lewis, a former blue-chip recruit, and believes transfer receiver Danny Scudero, who led the nation in receiving yards last year, will be a reliable target. Sanders dismissed the lack of Colorado players on preseason All-Big 12 lists as irrelevant noise.

The Buffaloes face uncertainty on defense, especially at defensive tackle, which could be tested by Georgia Tech's strong run game and top tailback Justice Haynes in their season opener on September 3rd in Atlanta. Sanders, however, feels the current personnel and staff are capable of making the necessary adjustments for victory, a stark contrast to the previous season's close losses.
