Bryson DeChambeau's U.S. Open hopes ended abruptly Friday when two ugly three-putts led to double bogeys and a 5-over 75. The 2020 and 2024 champion finished at 145, one shot above the cut line of 144, marking his third consecutive major missed cut this season.

DeChambeau joined an elite group of former champions heading home early. Brooks Koepka (2017, 2018) shot 77 to miss by six shots, snapping his 11-tournament made-cut streak. Jon Rahm (2021) followed a promising Thursday with four straight bogeys and a double on the back nine, carding 78. Defending champion J.J. Spaun missed by four shots despite an eagle on the par-5 fifth.

The drama centered on Dylan Wu, who faced a pressure-packed 18th hole scenario. After his bogey on 16 moved the cut line to 4-over, Wu needed par to survive. His 70-foot two-putt par secured his weekend tee time, while birdie would have dropped the cut back to 3-over and eliminated 12 other players.

Patrick Reed experienced his own roller coaster, making double bogey on the fourth hole before eagling the par-5 fifth to get back on the number. His 50-foot birdie attempt on the final hole came up short, resulting in just his second missed weekend in 12 U.S. Opens. Meanwhile, Wyndham Clark enters Saturday with a four-shot lead at 7-under.
