Cleveland's new WNBA expansion team has officially unveiled its name and branding as the Cleveland Sirens. The name was chosen to establish an independent identity from the Cavaliers, connect with Lake Erie, and appeal to fans seeking a progressive choice. The team, set to begin play in 2028, aims to capture the spirit of the region.

The Sirens will be the WNBA's 16th team. Cleveland previously hosted the WNBA Rockers, an original franchise that ceased operations in 2003. The return of a Cleveland team comes with a $250 million expansion fee paid by Dan Gilbert's Rock Entertainment Group.

Former Rockers player Janice Braxton was involved in introducing the "Hear the Call" theme. The branding incorporates blues inspired by Lake Erie and the original Rockers' logo. The team's president of business operations, Allison Howard, noted the distinct demographic and fan engagement expected for the Sirens, anticipating increased season ticket deposits following the name announcement. The logo itself features a Siren and subtly integrates "CLE" within the wordmark.
