Chiefs Restructure Roster Amid Rebuild

The Kansas City Chiefs have undergone significant roster changes following their 6-11 season, restructuring Patrick Mahomes' contract and trading All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to create salary cap space. Their biggest move came in signing running back Kenneth Walker III to a three-year, $43.05 million contract after his Super Bowl MVP performance.

Kansas City bolstered its defense by adding three veterans at less than $10 million in combined cap space. Defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga, safety Alohi Gilman and cornerback Kader Kohou bring versatility and stability to a unit needing improvement. Tonga will play alongside All-Pro Chris Jones, while Gilman understands the complex defensive scheme's demands.

The Chiefs remain interested in pass rusher Cameron Jordan, who recorded 10.5 sacks last season. With approximately $10 million in cap space, they could add Jordan by restructuring Chris Jones' contract. The team also holds 10 draft picks, including the ninth overall selection, targeting defensive end and cornerback positions.
