Alberto Mendoza announced his transfer to Georgia Tech on Tuesday, just one day after his brother Fernando led Indiana to a College Football Playoff championship. The redshirt freshman quarterback entered the portal immediately following the Hoosiers' title win over Miami and quickly signed with the Yellow Jackets, who need to replace senior Haynes King.

Mendoza, a 6-foot-2, 207-pound redshirt freshman, saw limited action in Indiana's perfect 16-0 season, throwing for 286 yards and rushing for 190 with six total touchdowns across nine appearances. His departure was anticipated after Indiana secured TCU transfer Josh Hoover, ESPN's No. 6-ranked quarterback, earlier this month.

Georgia Tech now has a clear opening at quarterback following King's departure and backup Aaron Philo's transfer to Florida. Mendoza will compete this offseason with redshirt sophomore Graham Knowles and others. His three remaining years of eligibility give the Yellow Jackets a potential long-term answer under center as they rebuild their offense.
