The 2030 Winter Olympics in the French Alps will open on Feb. 1, 2030 - the earliest date since 1964 - with several anticipated changes to the program and competitive landscape. The Games will be spread throughout France like the recent Milan Cortina Olympics, with potential venues including the Netherlands or Italy for speedskating.

Team USA appears poised for continued dominance in women's hockey, with young stars like Caroline Harvey (tournament MVP), Abbey Murphy, and Laila Edwards leading a potential dynasty. Goalie Aerin Frankel set an Olympic record with three shutouts and will return at age 31. Meanwhile, men's hockey promises more parity with contenders including Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland, Latvia, and Slovakia, whose roster features recent top-10 draft picks.

New sports will debut in 2030, with freeride skiing and snowboarding likely joining the program. The sport will feature 16 men and 16 women in both disciplines, with qualifying similar to surfing. American Mia Jones, daughter of snowboarding pioneer Jeremy Jones, recently won the inaugural FIS Freeride World Championship. Other potential additions include cross-country running, cyclocross, and ice climbing.
