MLB TRADE ACTIVITY HEATS UP

The first-place Los Angeles Dodgers have finalized a significant trade to acquire ace pitcher Tarik Skubal from the Detroit Tigers, sending prospects Zyhir Hope, River Ryan, and Brady Smith to Detroit. The Chicago White Sox are also making moves, acquiring right-handed pitcher Luis Castillo from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for Seranthony Dominguez, Nolan Jones, and prospect Boston Smith. In another deal the Atlanta Braves bolstered their outfield by acquiring Lane Thomas and minor league left-hander Bailey Falter from the Kansas City Royals for two minor league pitchers. Seeking to strengthen their bullpen and end an 11-year postseason drought, the Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired reliever Camilo Doval from the New York Yankees.

INJURY UPDATES AND PLAYER RETURNS

Red Sox catcher Willson Contreras underwent concussion testing and was held out of Saturday night's 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers, though he is expected to return to the lineup on Sunday. The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Ryan O'Hearn on the 10-day injured list due to a strained left quadriceps muscle, with his absence expected to last six to eight weeks. Braves right-handed pitcher Reynaldo Lopez was a late scratch from Saturday night's game against the Washington Nationals due to left knee inflammation and has since been placed on the injured list. Meanwhile, Houston star infielder Carlos Correa is progressing quicker than anticipated in his recovery from surgery for a torn ankle tendon, and he has not ruled out a return to play this season.
