Microsoft's Xbox division has missed a performance goal tied to executive pay for the fifth time in six years. Since 2020, top executives including CEO Satya Nadella and CFO Amy Hood have had an Xbox-related metric in their compensation packages. For fiscal 2026, the target was 4.3% growth in Xbox content and services revenue, but the division saw a 6% decline.
This miss follows a difficult year that included revenue drops and plans to lay off 3,200 workers. The target metric has evolved from Game Pass subscriber growth to content and services revenue growth. Only in fiscal 2025 did Xbox meet the goal, achieving nearly 15% growth.
Despite the repeated misses, the Xbox metric represents only a small portion of executive pay. Nadella's total compensation for fiscal 2026 was approximately $90.6 million, down from $96.5 million the previous year. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma has denied rumors of divestment, emphasizing a long-term strategy for the division's turnaround.
