Nasser Hussain praised Tom Banton's "second coming" after the batter scored an unbeaten 52 off 24 balls to help England chase down Sri Lanka's 145-9 with 7.5 overs to spare. Banton, now operating in the middle order after starting as an opener, has hit three half-centuries since his recall. Hussain believes new white-ball mentor Kevin Pietersen could be crucial for Banton's continued development, noting Pietersen previously challenged him to work harder. "He has worked hard and we are now seeing the rewards," Hussain said. Kumar Sangakkara also lauded Banton's power and improved play against spin.

Hussain highlighted Liam Dawson's 3-32, including two wickets in two balls, as the turning point after Sri Lanka reached 55-0. "England just outplayed Sri Lanka in every department," he added. The defeat marked Sri Lanka's 14th consecutive T20 loss to England, prompting Hussain to say they are "way off the side that I've seen over the years." Captain Harry Brook scored 23 off 8, while Jos Buttler became the first player to reach 15,000 T20 runs during his 30 off 16.
