The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have selected undrafted rookie Jalon Daniels as their backup quarterback behind starter Baker Mayfield, according to a source speaking with NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Daniels earned the role over veteran Jake Browning, who signed a one-year deal earlier this year, after impressing throughout training camp and preseason games. The Buccaneers will release Browning as they trim their roster to 53 players. Tampa Bay will also waive running back Josh Williams, who had 57 rushing yards and a touchdown this preseason.

Meanwhile, running back Sean Tucker agreed to a restructured one-year, $2.5 million guaranteed contract with incentives to remain the team's RB3 behind Bucky Irving and Kenny Gainwell. Tucker was originally due $3.52 million on a restricted free agent tender.

Daniels, a former Kansas star who joined Tampa Bay on a deal with a $25,000 signing bonus, appeared in all three preseason games. He completed 61.4% of his passes for 239 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 37 yards and a score. Despite struggling in Friday's 19-0 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars — completing 8 of 15 attempts for 57 yards with a lost fumble — coach Todd Bowles praised his overall operation and said the team would evaluate film before finalizing the decision.
