Sources close to the transaction confirmed to TechCrunch that the deal closed, though declined to disclose the exact amount. The acquisition marks a significant expansion of Anthropic's presence in healthcare and life sciences.

Coefficient Bio was founded just eight months ago by Samuel Stanton and Nathan C. Frey, who previously worked in computational drug discovery at Genentech's Prescient Design. The startup had been developing AI tools to make drug discovery and biological research more efficient. This move follows Anthropic's October announcement of Claude for Life Sciences, a tool designed to help scientific researchers make discoveries.

The acquisition brings approximately 10 employees from Coefficient Bio into Anthropic's health and life science team. This strategic purchase positions Anthropic to compete more directly with other tech giants investing heavily in AI-powered drug discovery and healthcare solutions.
