Synergy Sports Capital has officially launched as a new US-based private equity firm targeting emerging sports leagues and related ecosystem assets. Founded by former NFL player Terrence C. Murphy Sr., the firm is raising approximately $150 million for its inaugural fund, focusing on controlling stakes in lower middle market opportunities.

Murphy, a Texas A&M record-setting wide receiver and second-round NFL draft pick, brings unique sports industry experience to the venture. He previously served as a founding member and board member of Alumni Ventures and has joined the ownership group of Atlético Dallas, a rising professional soccer club in Texas. This dual role as investor and operator provides Synergy with valuable market insights.

The firm's strategy targets overlooked opportunities in emerging leagues where valuations remain attractive compared to established teams. Murphy notes that while major investors chase already-priced top-tier franchises, Synergy sees greater potential in growing fan bases and expanding media deals. The hands-on approach aims to create value through active management and strategic involvement in portfolio companies.
