Sound Growth Partners (SGP) has acquired RK HydroVac, a Piqua, Ohio-based firm specializing in roof preparation services. The acquisition bolsters SGP’s capabilities in low-slope ballasted roof repair and replacement. RK HydroVac, founded in 1981, offers dry/wet vacuuming, ballast removal, pneumatic ballasting, and disposal services via a fleet of Hydrovac trucks. Gary Wheeler, CEO, leads the company, which serves commercial roofing contractors nationwide.

The deal strengthens SGP’s position in the roof preparation market, a sector driven by aging infrastructure and increased demand for efficient maintenance solutions. RK HydroVac’s expertise in ballast management and disposal aligns with industry trends toward precision equipment and safety compliance. SGP’s existing portfolio includes firms in HVAC, electrical, and mechanical services, making this a strategic diversification.

RK HydroVac’s services address critical pain points for roofing professionals, including time-consuming manual labor and environmental compliance. By integrating RK HydroVac’s fleet and operations, SGP gains a competitive edge in regions with high commercial construction activity. The transaction underscores SGP’s focus on niche industrial services with recurring revenue potential.

This move highlights SGP’s aggressive growth strategy in the $20 billion+ U.S. roofing services market. Analysts note the acquisition could enhance margins through operational synergies and expanded geographic reach. RK HydroVac’s client base and proprietary equipment now form a key asset for SGP’s mid-sized buyout play in specialized trades.
