Ocean Sound Partners has completed an undisclosed investment in IMSAR, a Springville, Utah-based developer of low size, weight and power synthetic aperture radar payloads. Founder Ryan Smith will continue to lead the company while retaining a significant ownership stake. Established in 2004, IMSAR's technology is integrated on over 100 unmanned and manned aircraft platforms worldwide, including the Shield AI V-BAT and Insitu Scan Eagle.
The radar systems provide all-weather, day-and-night imaging and moving target indication. With Ocean Sound's backing, IMSAR plans to invest in radar performance, next-generation product development, and manufacturing infrastructure. The company will also expand AI-enabled exploitation and automated target recognition capabilities built on its Lisa 3D software platform.
IMSAR supports US Navy and US Army requirements and supplies allied defense ministries across Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and the Americas. Nearly all underlying technology is developed in-house. Ocean Sound, with offices in New York, West Palm Beach, and Buenos Aires, invests in technology-enabled services for aerospace and defense.
Gibson Dunn & Crutcher served as legal adviser to Ocean Sound, while Guggenheim Securities was the exclusive financial adviser and Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton advised IMSAR.
