Energy Capital Partners (ECP) agreed to sell its Midwest power generation portfolio to Houston‑based independent producer Talen Energy for $3.45 billion. The transaction covers the Waterford Energy Center and Darby Generating Station in Ohio and the Lawrenceburg Power Plant in Indiana, adding 13.1 gigawatts of capacity to Talen’s fleet in 2024.

Talen, led by CEO Mac McFarland, already operates roughly 13.1 gigawatts across the United States. Acquiring these assets strengthens its Midwest presence and diversifies its generation mix, positioning the company to meet rising demand for clean, reliable power amid a national push toward renewable integration in the future energy sector.

The deal will undergo regulatory review, but analysts expect swift approval given the sector’s growth trajectory. Investors will watch how Talen integrates the plants and whether it signals a broader trend of consolidation in mid‑size power assets, potentially reshaping regional market dynamics for the future of energy markets worldwide today.
