Ambienta portfolio company Officine Maccaferri has acquired Iterchimica and Surface Tech, creating a new High-Performance Materials vertical. Iterchimica, founded in 1967 and based in Bergamo, Italy, develops asphalt additives for the European market, claiming its products make asphalt more than 75 percent more durable and enable up to 100 percent recycled asphalt use. Surface Tech, founded in 2013 and based in San Diego, focuses on North America with aramid fiber reinforcement that reduces pavement cracking by 30 to 50 percent.
The acquisitions combine Maccaferri’s geosynthetics and engineering expertise with Iterchimica’s additives and Surface Tech’s reinforcement, covering every road layer from subgrade to surface and the full lifecycle from construction to regeneration. Maccaferri operates across five continents with customers in over 130 countries and plans to leverage this reach to expand both businesses internationally, including a planned US manufacturing expansion. The founders of Iterchimica and Surface Tech will reinvest, become Maccaferri shareholders, and retain leadership roles.
Andrea Venturini, partner at Ambienta, stated the deals reflect the firm’s model of uniting specialist sustainable infrastructure businesses on a global engineering platform to accelerate international growth.
