Throne Science, a startup developing an AI-powered toilet camera for gut health and hydration tracking, has secured $10 million in Series A funding led by Will Ventures. The round also saw participation from Emerson Collective, Workshop, and others, bringing the company's total funding to nearly $18 million since its 2023 launch.

Founded by CEO Scott Hickle and former Whoop co-founder and CTO John Capodilupo, Throne Science utilizes computer vision and AI models, some trained by gastroenterologists, to analyze stool and urine. The company recently introduced a beta version of its Gut Health AI coach, which uses LLMs to provide personalized feedback and identify correlations between diet, lifestyle, and gut health.

Capodilupo emphasizes the importance of longitudinal data, comparing Throne's approach to Whoop's success in continuous health monitoring. The company aims to provide objective data for consumers, clinicians, and researchers, with a long-term vision of developing an early warning system for conditions like colorectal cancer. Throne is currently undergoing validation studies with institutions including Harvard University and Stanford University.
