Cleantech and Infrastructure Funding Surges

Battery storage startup Antora in a Series C funding round, one of the largest cleantech deals this year, aiming to accelerate deployment of large-scale projects amid rising energy demand. The European Union also opened applications for a €10 billion scheme to build AI gigafactories. Separately, health testing platform Function in a funding round led by General Catalyst.

Private Equity Firms Report Strong Performance and Fundraisings

KKR reported record for asset monetizations, generating $848 million in realized performance income with exit multiples reaching up to 20x, signaling robust activity despite broader industry anxieties. Blue Owl for its latest GP stakes fund, which is expected to close this year after timeline extensions. CVC aims Q3 on its sixth secondaries fund, having already raised $9.3 billion to date, and is also planning its first infrastructure secondaries vehicle. Savano closed an oversubscribed direct secondaries fund, which has already made 12 investments.

Deal Activity and Emerging Trends in Asia and Services

In Asia, a concentration of capital in the large-cap private equity space for GPs capable of raising even modest amounts further down the market. HIG Capital plans to sell industrial services firm JT Thorpe to Truelink Capital, a business it acquired in 2022. Blackstone's energy transition group is acquiring ultrasonic inspections company Dark Vision from Koch, while Macquarie is reportedly exploring a sale of its waste-to-energy company, Win Waste. Venture capital firms on operator roles within their portfolio companies.
