A Reddit user reports that their AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D died just an hour after being installed into an ASUS ROG Crosshair X670E Hero motherboard. The chip had run fine for 1.5 years in an ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara, but after enabling a memory preset and rebooting, the board displayed a "00" Q-Code and refused to post. Inspection revealed brown marks on the CPU contacts, confirming failure.

Testing an older Ryzen 5 8500G on the same board also resulted in a "4D" error, indicating the motherboard itself may be at fault. The ASUS board was not new, having undergone USB repairs and a BIOS rewrite, and the user has contacted AMD in Brazil for an RMA but hasn't shared updates.

This incident follows a recent report of a Ryzen 7 7800X3D burning on the same motherboard model, and ASRock's prior admission that aggressive PBO limits fried Ryzen 9000 chips. While no root cause is confirmed, a pattern is emerging, with the X670E Hero claiming two CPUs from a single setting change.
