NVIDIA RTX 5070 GB203 Variant Leak Report

NVIDIA appears to be preparing a new GeForce RTX 5070 variant built on the larger GB203 die instead of the standard GB205 chip. According to leaker hongxing2020, this shift would represent a significant change in die size, moving from 263 mm² to 378 mm². To match the RTX 5070's 6,144 CUDA cores and 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit bus, NVIDIA would need to disable nearly 43% of the GB203's cores and shut off two of its eight memory channels.

The likely explanation for this change is binning; dies that fail to meet RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080 specifications may still function at RTX 5070 specs. There is no indication this variant will perform better, as specifications are expected to remain identical. Board partners have remained silent, so the change should be treated as a rumor until a retail card or official driver listing confirms it.
