Anthony Davis plans to finish the season with the Washington Wizards before deciding on a contract extension. Sources told ESPN's Shams Charania last month that the Wizards and Davis' agent, Rich Paul, mutually decided to wait on talks until the season began. This would give both sides the first 20 games to assess how the season goes.

Davis indicated he would decide after the season concludes. Washington acquired the 10-time All-Star big man in a February trade following a blockbuster deal for guard Trae Young. The Wizards signed Young to a four-year, $212 million contract during the offseason.

Four months after Davis arrived, the team selected AJ Dybantsa with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. Young and Davis are part of what Washington hopes will bring a new, successful era, alongside youngsters like 2025 No. 6 pick Tre Johnson and 2024 No. 2 pick Alex Sarr. The team hasn't reached the playoffs since 2021 and has won less than 20 games in each of the past three seasons.

Davis emphasized a simple leadership style focused on helping the young guys. He didn't suit up last season due to a hand injury but expressed excitement about being back on the court. He praised Washington's offseason moves, signing Khris Middleton and trading for Deandre Ayton, stating the moves show they are trying to win and change the narrative around the franchise.
