The September Pixel Drop brings improvements to the VIP contacts widget, more scam protections, expands Pause Point to older models, and celebrates new Harry Potter audiobooks. All Pixel devices from the Pixel 6 series onward are eligible, except the Pixel Tablet. The rollout starts today but will be staged, and some features are region and language dependent.

The VIP contacts widget now has quick actions for calling or messaging with one tap, badges for missed calls and messages, and a bottom floating menu to switch between VIP contacts. Gboard gains Scam Detection: when replying to a suspicious message, a "Likely scam" warning chip appears above the keys. Scam Detection for notifications also brands iffy messages. It works on-device and supports six languages: Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, and Spanish. Initially US-only, it now covers nine new countries: Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.

Pause Point, a digital detox feature that adds an extra step before launching distracting apps, now comes to Pixels back to the 6-series. Finally, Audible released Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions audiobooks. Google made Harry Potter Audiobook Packs with themes that change icons, wallpaper, and sounds. Eligible Pixel users get a two-month Audible trial free in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, India, Japan, and Australia until January 14. Themes are available until December 31.
