A rumor about Qualcomm using Samsung's 2nm process for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 did not materialize, as TSMC makes those chips. However, Qualcomm's Senior Vice President and Head of Mobile Handsets, Chris Patrick, has now confirmed "in-depth work regarding Samsung's 2nm process technology."

Patrick called the Qualcomm-Samsung relationship a "close partnership," placing it on par with TSMC. He noted Samsung Foundry is "a long-standing core partner" and will remain important. Qualcomm is "currently in the stage of understanding and evaluating" Samsung's 2nm for future products.

Patrick also praised Samsung Electronics as Qualcomm's "strongest partner globally" in mobile, citing a decades-long alliance. The companies have collaborated on LPDDR6 memory commercialization, with engineering teams from both sides addressing its complexities.
