i Phones are known for their quality cameras, but recording audio is simple with Apple's Voice Memos app. Open it from the Home Screen or Search, reinstall it from the App Store if needed, then tap the red button to record and tap it again to save.

Swipe up from the recording card for pause and rewind controls; rewinding lets you replace a section. Multitrack recording is available through the Plus button on an iPhone 16 Pro or newer. In Settings > Apps > Voice Memos, choose Mono, Stereo or Spatial under Recording Mode.

The top-left three-dot button offers Copy Transcript and Trim. The bottom-left speech bubble shows a real-time transcript, while the bottom-right sliders adjust playback speed, Skip Silence and Enhance Recording, or Studio Sound for spatial recordings. Apply settings with the blue button, then tap again to save. With location services, the memo uses your current location as its name.

Recordings appear newest first. Use the three-dot button to share, rename, favorite or view transcripts, and Search can find transcript matches. Browse by type, create folders and sync memos across Apple devices via i Cloud.
