A new A24 film titled 'Primetime,' starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, revisits the 2006 'To Catch a Predator' sting operation in Murphy, Texas, that ended in the suicide of Louis W. Conradt Jr., an assistant district attorney known as Bill. Hansen hosted the NBC series from 2004 to 2007, where adult decoys posed as minors to lure alleged predators, with police making arrests.

The Murphy operation, conducted with the Murphy Police Department and Perverted Justice, led to Conradt’s death after police and camera crews arrived at his home in Terrell, Texas. Former Murphy detectives Sam Love and Walter Weiss (nicknamed Gator) expressed distress over the renewed attention, calling it exploitative and saying it reopened old wounds. Love said, 'Oh my God, why don’t they let this thing die and go away?' Weiss stated he still feels 'a stain on my soul' for signing the warrant that led to Conradt’s death.

Chief Bill Myrick had authorized the department’s participation. NBC called the film a fictionalized portrayal, noting Dateline’s evolution over its 35-year history. The film is generating Oscar buzz for Pattinson and arrives amid renewed scrutiny of the controversial sting operations.
