Schlage Sense Pro Smart Lock Brings UWB Hands-Free Unlocking for $399

Schlage is bringing its Sense Pro smart deadbolt to market on June 29, priced at $399 in the US and $549 in Canada. The lock debuted at CES 2025 and will sell through major retailers including Amazon, The Home Depot, and Lowe's. Unlike traditional deadbolts, the Sense Pro eliminates the keyhole entirely while adding a keypad for manual entry.

The standout feature leverages Ultra Wideband technology to enable truly hands-free unlocking. Users add a digital key to Apple Wallet, then simply approach the door with their iPhone in pocket or Apple Watch on wrist. The lock calculates speed, trajectory, and motion to unlock precisely as someone reaches the doorway, removing the need to fumble for keys or phones.

Remote management comes via built-in Wi-Fi and the Schlage Home app, supporting up to 250 unique access codes, scheduled locking, and Apple Home app integration. Thread compatibility extends to recent Apple TV 4K and HomePod models. The lock runs on disposable batteries lasting up to six months with a USB-C port for emergency power.

Samsung Wallet and Google Wallet support arrives later this year, expanding beyond Apple's ecosystem. This represents a meaningful step forward for smart home security, offering convenience without sacrificing reliability. The price point puts it in premium territory, but the seamless integration with existing Apple devices could justify the cost for iPhone users invested in HomeKit.
