Apple’s first OLED MacBook Pro screens have cleared a major production hurdle as Samsung Display reports yields above 90% on its Gen 8.6 line. The Korean outlet The Elec notes some steps now reach 95% yield, the industry’s “golden” benchmark for steady mass output. Samsung could start shipping panels by June for upcoming 14‑ and 16‑inch models.

The panels use brighter tandem two‑stack OLED stacks, oxide TFT backplanes and hybrid encapsulation to meet the laptop’s higher brightness and lifespan demands. Those technical upgrades mirror Apple’s iPad Pro OLEDs and aim to improve battery life while preventing moisture intrusion.
